reading comprehension practice

tutee: Mao Mao struggles with his reading speed because he gets stuck on words
that are unfamiliar to him. We spent the session practicing increasing his
reading speed and using context clues to put together the meaning of
challenging texts. I instructed him to practice reading the text for the
overall message rather than trying to understand every single word.
Lesson(s) about tutoring
and/or the tutee you learned: Mao Mao is an avid reader, and because of this
his vocabulary is already very large. Although the level of difficulty of the
IELTS reading test is high, he was able to understand much of the vocabulary
used in the practice selections.
