Darliin Khahaifa TS#11

Date/Time: April 9, 2018 3:00 P.M.- 4:00 P.M.
Location: CIES
Topic/Skill: IELTS sample essay analysis
Feedback provided to tutee: Analyzing good and bad sample essays helped Mao Mao understand what aspects of his writing need to improve to pass the IELTS test with a good score. I drew his attention to the organization of ideas in the high scored essays as compared to that of the low scored essays. At times, Mao Mao struggles to organize his ideas coherently in his essays. Analyzing the two different samples together helped him to see more clearly how to successfully organize an essay.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: During this session, I learned more about using a variety of tactics to help a student understand a concept. Mao Mao has had some issues with organizing his ideas in compositions lately. Providing him with the visual of two writing samples seemed to have more of an effect than other methods I tried previously. It is important to revisit an issue with a different strategy to better help a student.
